Tyringham Green was formed in September 2008, after town residents voted in May to approve this measure:

Tyringham pledges to promote public awareness about greenhouse gas emissions and work towards reducing residential and municipal energy consumption. In order to achieve a reduction, volunteer residents would form a committee to assist and inform residents and the municipality of ways to reduce their energy consumption.

Initially, the committee consisted of Marcia Powdermaker, Larry Bravo, Bess Hochstein, Maggie Howard, Chris Johnson, and Kipp Lynch. Nancy Nylen from the Center for Ecological Technology helped us get started and continues to serve as a valuable resource. Other people have since joined the committee, including Bill Bean and Joanne Larson. We welcome anyone who would like to be a part of this group.

Tyringham Green’s first major initiative was to organize town meeting on March 18, 2009 to share information on saving energy and money. Every Tyringham resident was invited to the meeting at town hall, and about 25 attended. You can find more about this meeting, including some photos, on the Events page.
